Fresh Fabrics Friday: Eileen Kathryn Boyd for Duralee

Eileen Kathryn Boyd has recently introduced a line of fabrics for Duralee which reflect her bold, confident decorating style.  The line is filled with vibrant, graphic patterns in eye catching tones and I am smitten.  Duralee has always been my go to vendor for a wonderful selection of prints, often at great price points and this collection carries on the tradition.  Come along and have a look....

Boyd has deftly created patterns which are then repeated in five different color groups running the gamut from daring to more subdued. The fabrics and patterns can stand alone or mix well together and are suitable for many uses.  I have showcased a few from each group, but be sure to visit Duralee's website for the full line. The fabrics are available only through designers (me included).

Aren't they fun!!! I can't wait to use a few from the collection in a future project.  And if you are not familiar with the designer, Eileen Kathryn Boyd, head over to her website  or her blog to see her vivacious style and approach to decorating.

I don't know about you but I am delighted that the week-end is here!  I am looking forward to enjoying some family time, watching my kids run in a cross country meet and winding down after a busy week.  Thanks for always coming to visit me here at Room Rx, I enjoy the conversations and comments as well as sharing my inspirations with you all!

Room Rx: A timeless kitchen

A few weeks back I shared here that I was working on a kitchen renovation and I am excited to say that things are really moving along. This update involved opening up walls to make the formal dining room more of an informal eating area and to brighten the entire space up. As of today the mechanicals are done, the drywall work is complete, flooring is next and we are about 2 weeks away from the cabinet install. I shot some photos last week so you can see how light filled the space is now.
Before:
Now:

The larger of the two openings on the wall in this photo was a wall that previously contained a pantry as well as the refrigerator and now will host a large peninsula and allow the kitchen to flow and relate better with the living room (a room with, up to now, limited use if you know what I mean!)

The wall with single window here will have a banquette flanked by a tall cabinet in either corner

My clients and I are still fine tuning the details of the space,  but here is a partial design concept board to give you a feel for things.  The cabinetry will be a combination of the darker woods with a creamy white, a simple white tile back splash and brushed nickel hardware will round the look out. Like many projects, this one is constantly evolving, so a few things have changed from this board, but you get the idea....

When we went to select the granite slab we found this incredible piece, more creamy white than golden beige, perfect for the look we were after...

Instead of one large fixture over the dining table at the banquette, my clients opted for a trio of this gorgeous pendant...

Which then helped lead us to the appropriate wall color and fabrics...

Stay tuned!  I will keep you posted on the progress and as I've said before, I'm pretty sure "kitchen envy" will be running rampant when this project wraps up.....

Color of the Moment: fall hues

Between yesterday's Mood Board Monday and a few projects I am working on, I am not on top of my "Color of the Moment" boards, so for today's installment, you'll have to enjoy "fall hues" via inspirational interior photos.  Fall is my favorite time of year as I have always been drawn to the warm, deep, rich colors of nature's display. Pumpkins are symbolic of fall's arrival and who knew that there was such a spectrum of color?

Fall colors can be used to decorate without the overall effect feeling too seasonal.  Grounded with natural or another very neutral color, they read warm and inviting like in these gorgeous rooms...

If you don't have those colors of fall in your home's palette, you can easily add it with a few choice accessories.  A fall inspired throw...

Do your rooms wear fall hues?  Have you found a fabulous accessory or piece to add to you home that says "fall?"  Do tell...

Mood Board Monday: Wallpaper edition

Well, today is the day, finally! It's Mood Board Monday!!!! To refresh your memories, Sarah from Pewter & Sage was kind enough to do a guest post for me while I was on vacation and she introduced the idea that we would co-host one of her great Mood Board Monday link parties.  We chose wallpaper as the inspiration and each selected a few to share.  It was difficult for me to choose which one I liked best because they are all fabulous, but in the end I decided to be a little more low key in the pattern I selected....

However, I chose to use this fabulous wallpaper in a less common way, on the ceiling of my imaginary room  trimmed out with beautiful mouldings and using a ceiling medallion as the base for a catchy light fixture, similar to this....

I wanted to create a dining nook with an updated traditional feel so when I found this rug, I knew combined with the wallpaper, it would do the trick for me....
I was also pretty smitten with the upholstered seat back on this banquette and thought I could replicate the look using a built in bench combined with a customizable headboard like this:

Here is what I came up with, I wish I could do this exact room in my home...too bad the colors are entirely different from everything else I have going on.  Maybe that's part of what appeals to me, a total change of color story!

My imaginary room would have a base of ebony stained hardwood floors and creamy walls, and since I envision this being part of a large, open kitchen/ family room area, tall windows dressed in striped panels would allow a great flow of light. Opposite the seating area would be a sideboard, perfect for serving and storing as well as additional chairs, all of it anchored by a bold piece of art.

For sources, simply click on each of the smaller items below the mood boards, you'll go right to the web source.

Now it's time to see what you all have come up with!  You can link up below or head on over here to link up. Be sure to visit the other participants, comment and maybe even become a follower of their blog. There is lots of creativity out there! I have really enjoyed participating in Mood Board Monday and have met some delightful "blog friends" like Sarah by doing so.

Here are the guidelines for linking up:
Now its your turn! Here's what you do to join the party:
1. Create a mood board for any kind of room using one of the above inspirational wallpaper patterns.
2. Write a post about it, including sources (with a link back to this post so others can come look).
3. Add your name, project and thumbnail image to the Linky here on this post.
4. Then add the link to your SPECIFIC Mood Board Monday POST, not your general blog address.
5. Have fun checking out all the other wonderful rooms!
Remember, feel free to include an example or inspirational image of the way in which you are going to use your wallpaper if you think it will help others visualize your space better:)
