Room Rx: A Sweet Girl's Nursery - progress

Time for an up date! This sweet girl's nursery  for my cousin Jesse's baby is moving along. I have so much to share, but I am afraid I have been withholding from you, so let me get you up to speed...

This is a nursery done on a budget, purchasing only what is needed and using many items already owned. Here is where the room started... freshly painted floors (carpet torn up revealing hardwood in not the best condition, so painting was the perfect solution).

The inspiration for the room, a rug from another room:

We found this fabric, which matches perfectly...

BTW, this is what it looks like on the computer screen..... just sayin'!  As I mentioned on FFF, you can't always be sure of the color accuracy on screen so it's usually best to select fabrics in person.....

and this fabric for a touch of whimsy...

Instead of purchasing a new chair, this comfy number will reside in the nursery...

Our Grandma's lamp is joining the party, the blue is a perfect match to the rug....

So how will it all come together you ask? 
A sweet girl's nursery


This will be a girly girl's room, sweet, lacy and lovely. The pink on the walls is just a whisper of color, same with the blue on the ceiling. A friend is building a bookcase between the windows which will also serve as a radiator cover. A collection of milk glass will grace it's shelves, nestled among books and toys. 
Jesse is working diligently on a ton of DIY projects so stay tuned as I'll be sharing those. Wait until you see what she has done to transform this piece......

 I hope you will bear with me this week, my posting will be a bit light as I am trying to focus on my "to do" list which includes all of the last minute stuff for sending my oldest off to his semester at Conserve School. I can't believe he leaves this Saturday....!

Fresh Fabrics Friday: What would you do - part 2

In trying to keep things interesting here on "Fresh Fabrics Friday," last week I asked what you would do to pair up a bold print with this embroidered geometric. The fabrics are for a dining room project I am working on, the geometric has already been chosen and will be used for Roman shades.  We need a print to use on host and hostess chairs in order to infuse some color and softness and tie the room together with the living room next door.

Today I have put together a dozen fabrics, including several of the suggestions I had from some of you. (I did not include anything that I knew my client would not go for, or that I had already shown her.)  My client is fun, loves color and is not afraid to try something bold.

Your challenge? Pick the fabric that most appeals to you and will accomplish the job. Let me know by commenting below or sending me an email.

(Obviously I can't count as a dozen is 12 not 13, but I am too lazy busy to change it...)

Remember that computer screens are not the perfect place to choose fabrics as colors are not always accurately represented, but it sure helps in the search process. Once you have shared what you like, I will order swatches and memos of the fabrics I don't have and we'll go from there. I am also going to have my client weigh in. More next time....

Read: House of Fifty

Janell Beals and her team have hit it out of the park, again! The new issue of House of Fifty is live and yet again, it is a winner. 


So many great features and articles... I need to hunker down and read every word, but here are a few that caught my eye on my initial peruse:

Goodies from Home Decorators Collection

Did you receive the latest catalogue from Home Decorators Collection ? I got mine on Saturday and was pleasantly surprised by the appealing, together, new look of it. The products were well styled, a shift from past catalogues, and the variety of offerings seems to be very much in tune with the marketplace.  Home Decorators Collection has always been a source with great products,  a depth of offering and excellent prices, but it always seemed a little frumpy.  Now the style factor has been amped up and this has definitely become a new, go to resource.

Fresh Fabric Friday: What would you do?

In the interest of trying to keep things "fresh" here at Room Rx, today I am going to throw it out to all of you, so put on your thinking caps, we are going to play with fabrics together!

Pictured below is the fabric my client has chosen for her windows, it is an embroidered linen from Robert Allen's Williamsburg Classics Collection that I wrote about here..... 
We have looked at lots of fabrics and I think we have zeroed in on one to go with it, but as my Dad used to say, "there is more than one way to skin a cat!"  
 
Sooo....your challenge it to is to show off your creativity and great taste and tell me what one fabric you would pair with it!

Here are a few other elements to consider:
1) This is for the Dining Room picture below: 

 
2) The rug is a wool sisal with a 6" band of a small scale, terra cotta colored fabric similar to this pattern
 
(but as you can see, more red and less brown, like this....sorry could not find the exact fabric):
 
3) The fabric would be used on host chairs at either end of the table.

4) Don't worry, the walls are going to be painted, creamy white on the soon to be, paneled wainscoting below, and a faux grasscloth treatment above in Benjamin Moore's Wythe Blue:

5) The DR opens up to a large Family Room where we are continuing with a similar color palette which is best depicted in this fabric (this will become pillows in that room):

6) For one last bit of inspiration, here is the window treatment fabric with the rug...
