Room Rx: A Sweet Girl's Nursery - Reveal!

Drum roll please! "A Sweet Girl's Nursery" is finally pulled together, just in time as this wee little one should be arriving on the scene in the next couple of weeks! For my cousin Jesse, this was a labor of love, no detail to small to be considered, no project insurmountable, all done on a small budget. Jesse wisely chose to use a few pieces that she and her husband already owned (the rug, leather chair and ottoman, lamp and side table) which helped keep costs down. Added bonus? The rug created the beautiful and classic inspiration for the room.

Jesse and I had a ball working on the nursery together, all long distance, via phone, e-mail, facebook, i-chatting and texting, all without me ever setting foot in the space.Jesse is a lot like my CSIL in that if I give her and idea or direction, she runs with it.

And now.... another drum roll, here it is...!

The vintage prints were a find the Jesse had picked up early on, not sure how they would work in the room, but inspired by the scenes depicted and the colors.

How about the lovely, girly chandy?
And the perfect lamp, which belonged to our Grandma...

The gallery wall is so sweet, filled with embroidery hoops framing fabrics and vintage doilies, crocheted booties and bib, even a yarn wrapped letter, complete with a fabric flower from Jesse's wedding.

And just because a good reveal always gains perspective when you can see where the space began, here we are...before!

And my Design Concept Board, tweaked a few times to reflect a change of direction or two along the way.

And the lovely Mama to be....
proudly posing in her baby girl's room!

Many thanks to photographer extraordinaire,  Kelly Gorney for photographing the room and allowing me to use the photos here. Kelly has a beautiful blog where she shares photos from her shoots, check it out, the girl's got crazy talent! I'm guessing that this "Sweet Little Miss" will be appearing there after her newborn session....

If you missed anything about "A Sweet Girl's Nursery" along the way and want to know more about it and the projects done,  you can get caught up by starting here.
Move on to post #2.
Read about the DIY dresser/changing table.
And then the DIY Roman Shades,
and finally the DIY Crib Skirt.

As with any room, I am sure that things will evolve in this nursery once the special occupant arrives. One change already in the works is a built-in bookcase and radiator cover being built by a friend to go between the windows. I'll be sure to share once that is installed.
Thanks for following along in this Room Rx process, I am so proud of Jesse and how she was able to fulfill the vision for this nursery, great work girl!

Color of the Moment: Yellow

No poems today, just a few random thoughts about yellow...
 pure, vivacious,
punchy, warm,
enveloping, vibrant,
 happy
sunshine!
Sarah Richardson Design

Loving Sarah's take on the yellow bedroom, so today, my interpretation....
complete with several fabric options for the gorgeous wood trimmed headboard, a beautiful painting of a yellow dress and a little bit of yellow-orange in the form of a rug and throw pillows to keep it interesting.

Be sure to come back tomorrow when I share the reveal of A Sweet Girl's Nursery, I can't wait to show you how it turned out!

Charming Kalamazoo, MI home for sale!

If you have been reading Room Rx for a while you know about my CSIL and our decorating adventures together. Well, those decorating adventures have just taken an exciting turn, a whole new house to work on!  My sister and brother in law have decided that now is the time to sell their home and downsize. With changing goals and priorities, kids in and soon going off to college, this big ol' house is more than my CSIL and her husband want to deal with, so they are "movin' on."  I absolutely adore their lovely home in Kalamzoo, MI and thought, since you never know who is reading/listening, that I would share the fact that it is now on the market!

So if you are or someone you know is house hunting in Kalamazoo, send them a link!  This home is full of character and vintage detail, but is tastefully renovated and modernized.  The Westnedge neighborhood of Kalamazoo, where the home is located, is a lovely area, full of classic homes, tree lined streets and a wonderful elementary school. And for those who send their kids to Kalamazo public schools, there is The Kalamazoo Promise, an amazing college scholarship opportunity available to all students.

Below are a few photos I pulled from the listing:

Just last Spring we updated this space...

And then there is this bathroom we worked on together...

There are many more photos as well as additional information about the property here.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or would be interested in talking with my CSIL or touring the home.

In the meantime, we are busy dreaming about what the new home will look like (yes, I am including myself in the "we" as I am definitely living vicariously through my CSIL and BIL)!

Fresh Fabrics Friday: Charlotte Moss for Fabricut

Fabricut has recently introduced a line of fabrics and trimmings designed by interior design icon, Charlotte Moss. Influenced by Moss's love of gardening, the line is classic, yet up to date, featuring beautiful prints, textural wovens and elegant trimmings all offered in colors that are current, but fresh.
Her self stated philosophy to "live passionately, decorate luxuriously and entertain beautifully," is embodied in this collection as is her mission to help others create a coordinated, collected look when decorating. Another interesting touch is that each pattern is named for "women travelers and explorers who pushed boundaries in many ways," Charlotte's "muses."

 Architectural Digest

And now for a few of my favorites, I am completely taken with this large scale cotton print depicting garden urns and baskets...

And this embroidered linen blend, inspired by the pattern found on an old garden gate...
(Pam I think you need to have this for your LR...!)

Charlotte - peony & grass

A stylized wood grain pattern and an up to date patchwork...

Fanny - sycamore and currantAmelia - bluebell

You can also find this collection from Charlotte Moss at Calico Corners. Intrigued by Charlotte's style and want to know more? Check out her website, Charlotte Moss - A Flair for Living.

Now that I've shared my favorites, which fabrics do you like? How would you use them?

In other news, the delightful Andrea from Oak Ridge Revival has invited me to share my favorite find today on her new Friday Finds series, so pop on over and check it out. If you are not familiar with Andrea's blog, be sure to spend some time over there, she has done some lovely things to her home (most recently a make over of her daughter's bedroom which is positively adorable) and you are sure to be inspired.

We received about 3" of wet, heavy snow last night, so Madison is a "Winter Wonderland" today and my lucky kids have the day off from school. I am guessing there will be piles of wet Winter clothing all over the mudroom floor as the day wears on...!
Enjoy your week-end friends!
