Room Rx: Workspace for two - office reveal

Since I committed to you all last week to give the reveal on my office, I hopped to it and got 'er done over the week-end! I am pleased as punch with how the space turned out, especially since it feels like it took forever to get there (only a year, but close to forever).
 So come on in.....

This is a working office, so functional storage was key and I was able to maximize the existing built-ins and pair of bookshelves I already owned. The dark charcoal paint, black storage boxes and wicker baskets help to visually unify the pieces.

The tall file is hidden behind the door, perfect as it is not so attractive and is on my wait-list for a make-over.

Placing a pair of desks on the long wall allowed for the best use of the space to accommodate two in this room.

The Ikea wall cabinet is perfect for hiding away paperwork, letterhead, envelopes and the like. A pair of task lamps from West Elm allow for fully illuminated work spaces. Since these were not hard wired, I am delighted with my husband's solution to the cords hanging willy-nilly on the wall.

Various artwork, a memo board and a chalkboard for messages create a gallery wall of sorts.

Just for comparisons sake, and because who doesn't love to see a before and after, here is where we started:

To see this project from the very beginning go here, here and here. Like lots of projects, this one definitely evolved along the way, from the original design concept and colors to the furnishings and floor plan. I guess when something takes a year to complete, that is bound to happen! Suffice it to say, the unholy mess that used to be our office is now organized and tidy, infused with a little style and incredibly functional. I feel like my productivity has improved, my kids no longer tell me that I need to clean the office and even my husband is pleased. Insert sigh of satisfaction here...

Did you wrap up any big projects over the week-end?

Textile Friday: hide rugs

A bit of a departure from fabrics, but still focused on textiles, I thought it would be fun to have a look at hide rugs today. This style of rug has long been used in home decor due to it's versatility and durability, but seems to have gained some steam and is showing up in a variety of beautiful and interesting ways these days.

My uber talented designer friend layered a hide rug, which her parents gave her years ago, over a sisal to pull together her family room...

Hides are capable of standing alone over bare floors...

Patchwork hides are a tactile, neutral foundation.....

A boldly colored needle pointed version adds a bit of whimsy...

This is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of how these rugs can be used. The variety of hide rugs available is enormous, so the application is limited only to one's imagination. Here are a few to get your creative juices flowing.....

In addition these are some other great resources for hide rugs:

What do you think? Have you used a hide rug in your home or a client project?

I am hoping to wrap up the last details on my office and share it all with you next week, (now that I have officially put it out there, I have to finish) so I will be busy....!
Hope you all have a relaxing and fun week-end!

Color of the Moment: magenta & camel

Like they always say...."Better late than never!" Sorry for being a day late with my "Color of the Moment" post, but hey, I'm here.....!

Loving this crazy, bold color combo:

Angie Hranowsky is a designer who's work I admire, the way she uses color and pattern in her designs is fearless. She is also adept at mixing it up with furniture pieces that span the decades in terms of style.

Inspired by not only my colors today, but Angie Hranowsky's signature look, I created a cozy reading corner....

You must go and check out the painting I used in this board, titled Halcyon by artist Michelle Armas.  It is a stunning acrylic with graphite and gold foil in the mix. Michelle is quite talented and has a blog as well so check 'er out.

Thanks for all of your comments and for weighing in on which chairs for the game table. Even my husband weighed in with his first ever comment on Room Rx... too funny! Stay tuned to see how this shakes out.....

And so as Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly says in The Devil Wears Prada,
 "That's all."
