Just taking a breather....

Yes, I am the "Queen of the Obvious" at this point as I am sure you have noticed my radio silence. I am feeling the need to take a break, but also to be in the moment with my family, friends and work, so my posting, blog reading and commenting will be sporadic for the rest of the Summer.

I wish I could say I am doing a lot of what this gal is doing...

but alas, if you could see me, I might look much more like this crazy lady....

At least that is what I am feeling like! It's a good look, don't you think?
So please bear with me as I recharge my batteries, get my creative juices flowing again and focus on the present. My goal is to get back to my regular schedule after school starts in September.
Thanks for your understanding and support!

Road Trip: Boston

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned our plans to vacation in Colorado, disappointingly, Mother Nature conspired against us in the form of wildfires and extreme heat and we found ourselves changing those plans. So as of yesterday, our new plans in place, we are heading to Boston for a completely different kind of vacation. Instead of mountains, hiking and hot springs, we'll be immersing ourselves in city life, culture and history. Who knows, maybe we'll even sneak in a day at the beach!

No visit to a city such as Boston would be complete without consulting Design Sponge's City Guide, and the Boston guide does not disappoint, it is chock full of shopping, eating and sight seeing recommendations. Reading the guide, written by artist Jennifer Hill, I was intrigued by her work and inspired to share a few pieces of Boston art. Enjoy!

For any of you Boston locals or those who have traveled to, and love the city, I am all ears for any "do not miss" suggestions for things to do and see and places to eat!

As Arnold says "I'll be back!" I look forward to returning relaxed, rested  and ready to catch up with all of you!

Color of the moment: Preppy

The iconic combination of bold pink and vibrant grass green is what the preppy look is all about. Think Lily Pulitzer and LaCoste and you get the idea.

My vision for a preppy look using these vibrant tones is to employ clean lines and classic pieces, but add a bit of an edge.

How would you do preppy using pink and green?

10 Things: patriotic living room

The 4th of July is upon us, how did that happen?! Summer seems to have engulfed me and not in a "lazy days" sort of way, but it's all good and I am trying to enjoy every minute. We have no big plans for the 4th, so we'll partake in our annual neighborhood parade and picnic (not sure that my teens still want to decorate their bikes and ride around the park, but we'll watch and cheer on the little ones). In honor of all that we are lucky to celebrate here in the good old USA, today's 10 Things room has a patriotic flavor...

1) Crisp white paneled walls as a backdrop
2) Repetition of white in the upholstery, curtains, lampshades and tray
3) Pale blue beamed ceiling
4) Use of pale blue in the mats on the artwork and pillows keep the room's decor from being too obvious
5)  Chinoiserie lamp
6) Pops of red and navy in the accessories which could be easily changed out for another color
7) Oversized leather ottoman
8) Large tree adding height to the room
9) Dark woods to punctuate and contrast
10) ???

What strikes you about this room? Please add your 2 cents!
