How sweet is that photo? Jesse is glowing and I might add that the room looks pretty good too....! Jesse was motivated to finish pulling the nursery together for her photo shoot with Kelly, not to mention the baby's impending arrival, so she was working her "fingers to the bone" on several DIY projects. Remember the chest she painted? Today, thanks to Jesse, I can share how she pulled off the "custom" shades.
Jesse began this project with a pair of ready made, cotton duck Roman shades purchased from JC Penney (on sale!) to fit, inside mounted in the windows. The shades were similar to these:
Next she measured and cut her fabric to not only cover the shade, but to be perfectly positioned on it (the shades mirror images of each other) and allow for seams and coverage over the support dowels.
Using a combination of Stitch Witchery and hot glue, Jesse carefully created finished edges and glued the "custom" fabric in place over the shade, beginning with the entire perimeter and finishing with the support dowels. This was the time consuming part, ensuring that the stripes were perfectly vertical, the edges lined up and the fabric did not buckle.
She finished the shades by repeating the process with the valances that velcro to the top covering the hardware. This required additional patience and fabric matching (and a failed attempt on one as the stripes did not line up).
The final product.....
Didn't they turn out beautifully?
Nothing is more rewarding for me than when I can help inspire someone to
confidently complete a decorating project. Motivated by a limited
budget and a desire to have a unique nursery, Jesse has made this happen by taking on projects such as this. I'll be sharing at least one more DIY project and the full reveal in the next week, so be sure to come back and check it out!
Does your room need a “prescription” for a change of decor, function or design?
If so please contact me, I would love to help your room feel better with a Design Concept Board or a complete Room Rx.
Wow! She is totally adorable and just as creative! What a labor of love her room will be, can't wait for the reveal! I thought this was it, I'll be patient!
ReplyDeleteJesse looks beautiful! As does the room. That's a great trick for "custom" roman shades, although I'm not sure I would have the patience. Her hard work paid off though because they look perfect.
ReplyDeleteYay! It's fun to see the "story" in a form other than a folder in "My Pictures" ;) Thank you, Cathy!!
ReplyDeleteI forgot to send the photo with the lace trim attached to the shade...SORRY!
These are perfectly done and so very neat. A lot of talent in your family!
ReplyDeleteI forgot to comment on how pretty the photo of Jessie is in the nursery - I love natural photos like this that don't appear to be forced just being herself and loving pregnancy.
ReplyDeleteWow, these are so cool, Cathy...and Jesse! I totally never would have thought to do this nor had the patience! Such a great DIY:) That maternity photo is gorgeous! I would have loved to have had pro pics to document that time in my life....heck, I would have loved to look as fabulous as you do, Jesse!
ReplyDeleteI think Jesse is a blogger in the making. Awesome job!
ReplyDeleteSuch a great solution! I will have to remember this one. I am in love with that rug!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great idea and they turned out beautifully! Sending your post to my sis in law who was thinking about doing something similar for her baby's nursery :)
