Today I have another DIY project to share from "A Sweet Girl's Nursery" before we get to the big reveal. Soon it will be time for this little pumpkin to arrive on the scene and her Mama has been hard at work getting things ready.... If you have been following along, you know that Jesse gave a tired old dresser a facelift and created "custom" Roman shades using ready made shades and fabric, so she was more than ready to tackle making a crib skirt.
Initially Jesse wanted a gathered skirt for this beautiful Jenny Lind crib, but after researching how to do it, she felt that the effort required for a novice seamstress would not result in a look she was going to be happy with. A change of plans, a little ingenuity and a bit of hard work later and here is the gorgeous pleated crib skirt....
I do believe that "Mama Jesse" is going to get a new name, "The Queen of Stitch
Witchery!" Can you believe that she made this amazing crib skirt without sewing more than a couple of seams? Jesse did a rough sketch, measured and re-measured to determine the size of the pleats, stitched the fabric together to achieve the length necessary and then worked her "Stitch Witchery" magic, hemming and pleating.
The pleats are made permanent with a seam along the top and then more Stitch Witchery to affix the velcro on top of that.
The rest of the velcro was attached to the crib using a hot glue gun, and then the skirt was put in place.
Voila! The crib skirt turned out beautifully, rich, full and sophisticated. I like the look better than the gathered skirt... Jesse knocked it out of the park!
I can't wait to share the full Room Rx reveal next week. Jesse and I had so much fun working together on this room and the result is charming and full of love!
Does your room need a “prescription” for a change of decor, function or design?
If so please contact me, I would love to help your room feel better with a Design Concept Board or a complete Room Rx.
Beautiful! I love seeing the color palette come together between the fabric in the skirt and the rug. I can't believe she did that with only a seam and some Stitch Witch. I've used SW but my project didn't turn out like this beauty. Great job Jessie!
ReplyDeletethis is such a sweet vintage feeling room- that skirt is elegant and just perfect!
ReplyDeleteThat girl needs a diy blog! What amazing projects for the sweet little one! The skirt is darling and such a perfect choice with the rug!
ReplyDeleteI think Jesse needs to start a blog. She is so talented!
ReplyDeleteGreat job, Jesse. Can hardly wait to see it in person.
ReplyDeleteSooo pretty! I love a grown up color palette in a nursery. Very sweet. Looking forward to the big reveal.
ReplyDeleteStill loving that rug! This is going to be so lovely.
ReplyDeleteAw, this is so pretty! Sweet and sophisticated. The whole crib is beautiful!!! This is too much for my brain to comprehend, even though there was little actual sewing. I wish I got along better with fabric:) Can't wait to see the full reveal, its going to be amazing!!
ReplyDeleteGlad you are psyched about the next MBM, Cathy! Sorry it took me so long to get this one up and running. I just finished this week's Bachelor today too!!! Woah, did not expect KB to be going home, but her hometown date did kinda suck. I think her parents might have made Ben nervous, plus she is pretty young. As long as he doesn't pick Courtney!!!!!
What an adorable crib skirt! I am looking forward to the room reveal!
ReplyDeleteSo very adorable!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great crib skirt! Stitch witchery, really? It looks very professional.
ReplyDeleteI do like the pleated look and prefer it to ruffles. Definitely more sophisticated and perfectly executed.
