The Foyer: a space to knit it all together

For the past few months I have been working on several rooms on the first floor of one home and have kept you up to date with a bit about A Hip & Comfy Family Room, A Cheery Sunroom,
as well as some built-ins I designed.  Of course as the rooms begin to come together, one thing leads to another and it was obvious the foyer needed to be updated as well, so as to knit the new decor of the other rooms together.

The plans for this space include removing the chair rail, bringing some color to the walls, painting all of the trim a creamy white (and someday maybe even the stair rail and post), updating the bench cushion and lighting and adding a bold rug.

We choose the rug below from our fabulous local flooring store Sergenians.
The colors tie into the plan for the balance of the first floor and work beautifully with the brick flooring. Best of all, it is made of polypropylene, making it functional and perfect for a much used entry.

This fun fabric will be going on the bench cushion and is also being used in the Family room right off of the foyer.

Walls will be painted with Wythe Blue at half strength and the ceiling at 1/4 strength.

So that's what I am up to along with having kids still on break (they go back tomorrow) and my oldest home from Conserve School through this week-end. I am also working feverishly on trying to get my "Spring into Action" project completed and let's just say that the windy days we have been having are wreaking havoc on my spray painting plans..... more about that on Thursday! All of that said, please bear with me as this may be another light posting week....

Does your room need a “prescription” for a change of decor, function or design? If so please contact me, I would love to help your room feel better with a Room Rx.

  1. I love the plan for this entry! White trim and blue walls will make it seem so bright and airy!

  2. The mouldings and floor in that entry are really nice. And I love the items you've selected to pull everything together - it must be a good feeling to be able to see an entire project like this come together (and a happy client too!). Enjoy your family time Cathy!

  3. I love your patterns and palate, Cathy. I can't wait to see how it all comes together, especially when you've painted out your trim. I have a very similar rug in our front foyer right now. It's really too small for the area but I love it so much that I'm leaving it there!

  4. Such beautiful selections, Cathy, I bet they're thrilled! What a fresh update, the trim will be gorgeous lightened up. I'm keeping my fingers crossed the stair rails and post accidentally get some white paint on them! :)

  6. Lovely choices, Cathy! They will certainly update and freshen up the space. I have used Wythe Blue a few times and it is a favorite! And yes, the wind in our area has been messing around with my attempts at spray painting, too.
