A Hip & Comfy Family Room: Progress on the built ins

Last week I showed you my sketch for this wall of built ins in a client's home.  I am just delighted with how things are shaping up and thought you would enjoy seeing the progress. The mantle design has changed a bit from the original concept (it's always good to be flexible... and patient, as projects unfold),  we decided to go with a raised panel door style to keep the look of things consistent with the rest of the home.

On the left, by the TV, see how the bi-fold pocket doors just disappear into the cabinet?

Look at how great those doors look when the TV is closed away....

Tons of space for books and accessories.... the back will remain creamy white... I know, bucking the trend!

Here we are with the mantle installed, the crown moulding finished and one coat of paint....
still deciding on sconces.

The hardware will be added this week, keeping it simple with a classic oil rubbed bronze knob similar to this....

Next up? The fun stuff... filling up those open bookcases, can't wait!
How about you, what progress has been made on projects you have been working on?

The weather here in Madison continues to be more like May or June than March. Magnolias and other blossoming trees are in flower, the daffodils are in peak and stunning, tulips and other Spring bulbs are sprouting and so are the dandelions.  We did a bit of work in our yard over the week-end and I must say, I am feeling it today.... out of practice I guess!!!

Does your room need a “prescription” for a change of decor, function or design? If so please contact me, I would love to help your room feel better with a Room Rx.

Talk about progress!! The built-in cabinetry and shelving is amazing Cathy - it looks so good!!! You (and your client) must be thrilled. Love seeing the process unfold like this and take form of course too. I feel like the weekend just flew - it's crazy. I did a quick post on the e-design project that I'm working on which is a lot of fun.

Oh, Cathy, that disappearing TV would make me one happy client! Wonderful design, can't wait to see those shelves filled! Yard work in these parts, too!

Gasp!! So beautiful, Cathy!! They are gorgeous. It must be so cool for you to see them go from your vision to reality:) Love that the tv can be hidden. And keeping the inside light and bright is timeless and classic:)

Thanks so much for your input on mom and dad's room!!! I just drew up that floor plan in photoshop free-hand...its totally not to scale or anything. I have one of those pen tablets so its really easy to draw. I did all the outlines in black first and then filled in the color of everything on a layer underneath. Totally snagged that image of the hand-hooked rug from the shop's website!
