My holiday home

A warm welcome to you today, c'mon inside my holiday home....
Every year I use the same decorations I already own and try to change things up, using them in new ways, new locations or not at all. This year I bought nothing except a wreath and an evergreen bough, which I purchased inexpensively at Costco.

I filled my urns with dried hydrangea from my yard, birch branches and stems from local hikes as well as greens pulled from my Costco bough.

Once the snow that is forecast for today arrives, (yippee... so excited, my snowshoes are dusted off and ready for action and my kids are prepping and hoping for a snow day tomorrow) my iron angel and tree will really stand out.

In keeping it simple around here, I added a bow to the starburst mirror in my foyer, (yes, a recent addition, and a bargain at that) strung a few ornaments around the lamp, filled a vase with pine cones and added my creche.
For the past few years we have put our tree in the living room, so I took a vote and again we put it there. We trimmed it with our collection of ornaments which hold many memories and stories.

Holiday pillows and a red throw dress up my sofa. At this time of year it sure is handy that my LR colors incorporate lots of red and a few touches of green!

My Mom's collection of Santas make an appearance every year, this time they are on a console table at the entrance of my living room.
The family room got a different look this year, more natural with a touch of sparkle.

Using some leftover fabric, I made some stockings to match the sparkly, natural look. My oldest son was a little disappointed not to see his usual stocking on the mantle and when he asked why, my answer was that "they didn't match!" Santa may just have to fill two stocking for each kid this year....
Overall I am quite pleased with how things came together. Believe it or not, in addition to changing things up, I really pared back this year you can go look at
last years holiday home tour  and see for yourself!

Now, off to pick up those last few gifts, finish my holiday cards and prepare for the 12" of snow heading our way.

Does your room need a “prescription” for a change of decor, function or design? If so please contact me, I would love to help your room feel better with a Room Rx.

  5. What a naturally beautiful Christmas. I love that you use what you have. I also think it is nice that you let your family vote on where the tree should go. As much as I complain about the snow, I really do like a white Christmas. There is a slight chance we will have one in NJ.

  6. You finished! And it looks beautiful. I really love your front porch/entry. And of course all of those meaningful ornaments - and I love the Santa throwing the snowballs in your Mom's collection that you have. I'd also like a snowstorm - can you send some our way plllllease!!? That sounds like fun. A friend/co-worker from Maine just showed me yesterday what snow shoes look like. I still had tennis raquets pictured in my head - ha!

  7. So beautiful! I completely love your front porch -- have you shown us that before? It's so cute and looks great how it's decorated. And, I love how so many of your decorations hold special meaning to you and your family. I think that's what the holiday is all about -- and the reason I love spending Christmas at my parents house! So much of my mom's decor holds special meaning.
