Wallpaper Wow

OK people, here is what we are doing today....we are going to get you pumped full of inspiration for next week's Mood Board Monday, being hosted by Sarah over at Pewter and Sage. Sarah and I are co-conspirators on this MBM which was introduced to you all back in August with the inspiration being wallpaper.  All of the instructions for what to do and how to do it in order to participate next week, as well as the wallpapers we have chosen, can be found here. Smitten: Ombre

The French word ombre literally means shadow, shade.  In design, it is gradation and shading of color on fabric, walls, furniture or any other medium and has been quite popular for a couple of years now.  Maybe it is the "Bohemian" side of me, but I love it, it is fresh, colorful and fun and reminds me of tie dying as the basic process is similar.  My attraction to it probably goes back to the rust colored, ombre knit, wool sweater I had as a teen, which I thought was "all that." Considering that sometimes I can't remember what I wore 2 days ago, it must have been!!!

Ombre can be casual and a bit kitschy.......

Or for those of you motivated "Do It Yourself-ers," of course the Sweet Paul magazine article has instructions for doing and ombre dye using natural dyes, in addition, here is a Ombre Dip Dye tutorial, as well as some instruction from the Queen of DIY, Martha Stewart. Whichever method you choose, you can dye anything from your own fabric, to sheets, shower curtains or clothing, just imagine the possibilities!

Trends: Faux Bois

The look of Faux Bois (the term has French roots and means "false wood") continues to be a healthy design trend these days, which is amazing as it has been on the scene for quite a few years.  My first exposure to it was thanks to style diva Martha Stewart (who may even been the reason it became a trend).  There is something classic about the look and I can honestly say I am not tired of it.  Faux Bois can be found on everything from textiles to furniture and is organic, yet bold and graphic. Even just a touch of it can make quite a statement.

For those DIYers out there, here is a fun tutorial for creating your own Faux Bois stamp to imprint on fabric or paper.  Martha Stewart has a paint kit which can be used to replicate the look on furniture or walls.

Chalkboard Paint: Love it or leave it?

Chalkboard paint has been all over the "blogisphere" for the past couple of years, and I guess I would have thought that by now I would be tired of seeing it but I must admit, I never cease to be amazed at the creative ways in which it is used.  I have collected a few of my favorites and want to share them here with you today.

Love this application in a Craftsman style bungalow dining room, I imagine that whatever is written on the wall is quite the conversation starter.
