Artist Profile: Carolee Euritt Salat

My friend Carolee is what I call a "Renaissance Woman."  She is insanely creative, she is a wonderful cook, incredible gardener, amazing mother, an outdoors woman extraordinaire, beautiful writer and  a fantastic knitter. She is well read, deep thinking, green and ecologically minded and add to all of this, a talented, self taught, photographer.  Today I want to introduce you to her and a collection of her photos.  First, her "official" bio:

Carolee Euritt Salat is a photographer, outdoors woman, artist, and mother who resides in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Her photographic emphasis is in portraiture, children in nature, and her latest passion, Boxcar Graffiti abstracts.  Carolee is surrounded by the beauty of the natural world.  However, the world of the woods is somewhat void of the creativeness of man.  Then one day she stumbled across an old train yard and miles and miles of abandoned, bramble covered cars in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  She was immediately taken in by the beauty and creativity found on these old, deserted cars.  The colors, shapes, and designs were exciting, inspirational, and evocative.

The bold, graphic lines and color make these photos so striking.  I love that this is the work of two artists, the anonymous individual who expressed themselves initially on the canvas of the boxcar, and Carolee, hungry for a creative departure from her landscape based work.

Photographs, like a painting or any other piece of fine art, are a highly personal choice.  They are a wonderful way to inspire the decor of a room or add the finishing touches.  Either way, the abstract photos from this series will be a focal point. Imagine them enlarged and printed on canvas wraps, gracing the large, empty walls of a loft dwelling, as the artistic theme and starting point of a restaurant design or on the walls of the waiting area in a doctor's office.  The possibilities are endless.
