Hip & Comfy Family Room: Built-ins are done!

Several weeks back I posted about the built ins for this family room here
and shortly after gave you a progress report here. Today, I am happy to report, the built-ins are complete and while we are still working on getting things "styled," I thought I'd share the final product.

From sketch....

To reality!

The doors on the left side above are bi-fold pocket doors and open to reveal the TV, which is on a tray that pulls out and swivels for optimal viewing. The shelving on the right is fully adjustable and there is tons of storage behind the doors on the bottom of both sides.

We ended up tweaking the design around the fireplace as well as the mantle for a number of reasons, but I am pleased with how it turned out.

This is the view as you enter the room..

Sure beats this don't you think?

We are still working on finishing a few details in this room, window treatments, pillows and a couple of other things, but you can bet I'll be sharing the full "after" once it is done, so stay tuned!

Hope you all enjoyed your week-end. Ours as usual, was a whirlwind, on top of which Spring Break ended for my oldest and he left yesterday to go back to Conserve School (boo hoo!) Thankfully there was a break in the "wind" (literally and figuratively) and I was able to get my spray painting done. I'll be sharing the final installment of "Spring into Action" on Thursday, be sure to stop by.

Does your room need a “prescription” for a change of decor, function or design? If so please contact me, I would love to help your room feel better with a Room Rx.

  1. The built-ins are beautiful. I have long wanted something like that but not in this house. There is a staircase and window preventing that in my family room.

  3. Cathy!!! You've breathed new life into this room! Your client must be beside herself. It looks absolutely INCREDIBLE. I like the open shelves on one side versus having the bifolds for the TV. Great great great work my friend - can't wait to see the rest! Hope you had a great weekend with the family!

  6. How beautiful! But you know what really struck me? The little pop of orange under the sofa table. You know as well as I do that I have less than no taste (and generally I despise orange), but that made me really happy. Lovely, lovely, lovely. You're my most talentedest friend!
