Rustic Chic for the 20 something guy!

Back in October I did a "High Brow - Low Brow" post on this sling chair from World Market. 

(Now it is even more of a deal at $99.99, in stores only)

 At the time I started a Room Rx for an imaginary client, using the chair.  My "client" is a guy, who has been working for a while and has just purchased a condo. I thought this chair would be great for the bedroom or office. 

The design has a masculine look, earthy and a bit edgy. 

The idea being to invest a few more costly, key pieces (the desk, desk chair and dresser) and then bring in the bargain pieces. 

I am a sucker for Kuba cloth and Kilims as well as for texture and a pop of red!

What do you think? Would a real guy similar to my "imaginary client" actually go for a room like this?

Spring FINALLY arrived in Wisconsin this week-end, yippee! We made the most of every minute with a couple of bike rides, FAC (Friday afternoon club) on the patio with great friends and lots of work in the yard. My body is feeling it today, but that's a good thing!

High brow - Low brow: leather butterfly chair

Originally designed in 1938 by Ferrari Hardoy, an apprentice of Le Corbusier, the leather butterfly chair has a modern, bohemian vibe. Knoll took over production of this chair in 1947. Originals can be found at online auction houses for hundreds of dollars. like this one below....

Shopping recently at World Market, I saw this chair and the price tag? $200 cheaper than the CB2 version and because it is a knock off of the knock off, hundreds less than the real deal.

 Before I forget.... today I am guest posting about my "Fall Favorites"for Jenn at A Home in the Making while she enjoys a get away with her husband in Italy. Lucky girl!!!! Aren't these Regina Andrews jute pendants from Layla Grace just gorgeous? Used solo or in a grouping of three, they have just the right look for a room needing a relaxed, high style, even kitschy feel. At $323 for the cylinder and $373 for the others, purchased individually, the price will not break the bank.

Irving Burlap Pendant Shades 

So, these are obviously not identical, since both the shapes and the material are different, but using this trio in the same way as a trio of the Regina Andrews Jute from Layla Grace would certainly exude a similar vibe and at $59.99 for the 3 shades and $24.99 for the 3 arm lighting kit the combo would save a person lots of cash.  One could even buy all 3 shades (which are sold as a group) and the single lighting kit, use the largest of the shades for a single pendant and use the other two for other lamps and really feel good about the savings!

So there you have it, as my hubbie says, "you've got to spend money to save money!"  Great wisdom from an accountant!

High Brow - Low Brow: Iron Garden Chairs

Love these fun, colorful, curvy iron chairs from Anthropologie spotted in the most recent catalogue.  Of course they would be fabulous brightening up a patio table, but they would be equally at home around a table in a kitchen nook or pulled up to a vanity or desk in a girl's bedroom. At $248 each, they won't break the bank, but are not exactly a "screaming deal"...

So yesterday when the Pier 1 catalogue arrived, I was drawn to these similarly styled iron chairs...

At $119.95 and $149.95 respectively, these beauties are a little easier on the wallet, and with the added investment of a can or two of brightly colored spray paint and a little elbow grease, you have essentially created the same look.

Of course you could always scour Craigslist with the notion that the look could be had for even less, but if you are not up to the task, you are good to go with the Pier 1 version!

High Brow - Low Brow: Chesterfield Chairs

The Chesterfield, a classic style for a chair or sofa with it's tufted back and rolled arms, is a great foundation piece for any sitting area.  I found the chair below while searching for chairs for a client.  Made by Hickory Chair, this is the "Cadillac" of upholstered pieces with a "spring down" seat, beautifully finished wood legs and high quality construction.  A piece meant to last a life time, with a price tag to match (unfortunately I was unable to get an exact price as this is a custom item, suffice it to say, it probably costs well over $1500 in a simple fabric, more in a higher end fabric...)

 Love the look but not in the market for a lifetime piece?  Today's your lucky day as I found a couple of other similar chairs with price tags for those of us with the "beer budget."

This one would look great in a more modern setting due to it's dark, simple wood base and legs.

I read about a variety of fills to use in the un-stuffed poufs and the best, most cost effective one seems to be crumpled, balled up newspaper.  How awesome is that, a green and cheap way to bring a current trend into your home?!  (I think I would stuff the poufs from Crafts of Egypt to bursting in order to give them a more "high brow" look!)  Now that you have seen a pouf can be had for a great price, where would you consider using one in your home?
