Room Rx: Family Room Quick Fix Reveal

A while back I shared this Room Rx: Family Room Quick Fix in a post I did about my CSIL's desire to update her family room.  Well, she's done it again, that creative girl, she's gone and taken my ideas as a starting point, infused her own touches and with just a little bit of coaching from me, she has transformed her room.  And might I add, she did it all on a budget.  So come and have a look at what paint, fabric, a new area rug and a couple of lamps and key accessories can do for a room......

Remember the before?  Not bad but in need of a "pick me up."

How about this bright and beautiful after?

I love the bold artwork and punchy colors grounded by the sectional and "giraffe" print rug.

The most dramatic transformation in the room was the media center:

Good bye unnecessary, under-used open shelves, hello Ikat "artwork," bright paint, starburst mirror and gorgeous lamps!

My CSIL is the "Queen of DIY," if I can dream it, she can do it. She made the Ikat wall art, she painted (her hubby helped), she trimmed out the lampshades with ribbon...

She made all of the pillows....

She styled the shelves of the built-ins flanking the fireplace using what she had as well as a few new, carefully chosen accessories. Previously, she made all of the window panels and she and my BIL re-tiled the fireplace surround, pretty amazing wouldn't you say?  I want them to come to my house and finish all of my stalled DIY projects...

To me, there is nothing better than a good before and after, and I love it when I can help inspire someone to have the confidence to accomplish what my CSIL did in this room. I think it is important for a person to put their mark on a room, interpreting and executing a look in a way that they are comfortable with. The best part? My CSIL and I always have fun decorating long distance via texts, phone calls and emails.  Oh and did I mention that my brother in law now calls this the "Lemongrass Family Room,"  He cracks me up!

Does your room need a “prescription” for a change of decor, function or design
If so please contact me, I would love to help your room feel better!

What a beautiful transformation! I love that the large fabric panels and the huge picture over the fireplace really focus the room and declutter it. I also really like how bright and fun the new colors are :)

I'm so impressed!! I really like the brightness of the room.Lovely colors, and it always amazes me what a little decluttering can do for a room. Now, IF ONLY my family could keep it that way for more than a day!!

Cathy -- love the style she put together! I have a question about the 6th photo. The window valance in the room behind the family room caught my eye. Is that a long valance that's "bundled" with contrasting fabric at a few intervals?

Janet,
The room in the background has upholstered cornice boards with individual relaxed Roman shades hung underneath. We brainstormed what to do in there and my CSIL made those too...she's very talented! Let me know if you have any other ???
