A Hip & Comfy Family Room: game table & chairs

The "Hip & Comfy Family Room" I have been working on is a large enough space that it can accommodate not only a seating area with a sectional and pair of chairs, but a game table. My client and I selected the table early on and have been waffling about the appropriate chairs. The room is a mix of clean lines and more traditional pieces, dark woods and white painted finishes.

This is the table we are working with, which coordinates nicely with the console table above:

My goal is to soften things up, either adding upholstered chairs or seat cushions on wood chairs. After much back and forth, I think we have finally made our selection, but out of curiosity, I wondered what my design savvy readers would choose! So please, weigh in, let me know what you would choose from the chairs I have gathered below or something else you have come across.

The design process is very fluid for me, sometimes things change along the way, a room comes together and suddenly what I thought (or my client thought) was perfect, is not quite right. So my job is to be flexible and continue to source and suggest additional options or ideas, or go back to plan A, which sometimes simply has to be proven to be the best. Kirsten Krason at 6th Street Design School wrote a great series last week on this very subject, if you didn't read it  go back and check it out.

So let me know what you think....which chair would you choose?
If you want to see the original Design Concept for this room in order to decide, go here.

Does your room need a “prescription” for a change of decor, function or design? If so please contact me, I would love to help your room feel better with a Room Rx.

I would go with chair #4. Love the straight lines and upholstery.

I would choose #8, I like the softness and large dose of pattern the upholstered piece would lend. Also, #8 gives a nice mix of styles. Love the idea of a game table!

Tough choice, you gave so many great options. I like #1 and #8. The room is looking great. Can't wait to see it all finished.

I like the idea of #1 or #7 with a cushion. This is such a great multi-purpose room - really fun to see it all come together. That first photo of the room is really sharp Cathy!

No doubt it's 4 or 6. Gotta have something cushy to set my arse on and I don't like tied-on cushions.

When does Tom Wall ever set his arse down?

I like 4. I have done something similar for a client a couple of years ago with a round table from west elm. The chairs were upholstered, armless from crate and barrel and slim enough to accomodate extra chairs if necessary. I like the linear chair lines against the round table and upholstery.

My pick would be #4.
Looking really good so far, Cathy!

Beautiful! As for the chairs - Im a sucker for those French Round back chairs- Classic- yet can be updated with a fresh fun fabric.

If this game table is truly going to be used as a game table I would go with the most comfortable ones - chairs that can be sat in for hours. I think they should have arms as well. Arms would also make the chair sturdier for exuberant game players and children. They would also be more comfortable for those times when the chairs are pulled away from the table for extra seating for a party etc.
