Fresh Fabrics Friday: How to use an inspiration fabric

You found a fabric you absolutely love, your inspiration fabric for a room you are working on. How do you use it to pull the room together?
Today we are going to take a little tour of my CSIL's home and I'll show you how we used her inspiration fabric.

Here she is, in all of her glory...
Bayrum - Jet by Stout

A bold fabric offering a myriad of lovely colors to work with.

For this living room, the natural place to begin was with pillows, in this case a single lumbar on the sofa...

Speaking of the sofa, since it was a custom piece, the fabric was selected to coordinate with our inspiration fabric, a sharp, textural neutral. The included pillows were done in a cut velvet which pulls a tone from the inspiration fabric.
We used the inspiration fabric to recover a  chair seat

(my CSIL did the reupholstery herself!)

or two!

Because this is such a vibrant pattern, and the others we coordinated with it were also quite bold, a little goes a long way, so we limited our use of it in this room.

With about a yard remaining, we pulled the fabric into action in the powder room which is just around the corner from the living room. A paint color was chosen from the colors in the fabric and a Roman Shade was made. The combined effect giving this tiny powder room a big wow!

Before:

After!

I think we ordered a total of 4 yards of the inspiration fabric, meaning we got a lot of bang for our buck.

How have you used an inspiration fabric in your home?

I am off to The Holiday Craftacular with a friend this afternoon. Since I am largely done with my Christmas shopping, I'll have to rein myself in and just be inspired by all of the creativity instead of making any big purchases!
Enjoy your week-end my friends!

Does your room need a “prescription” for a change of decor, function or design? If so please contact me, I would love to help your room feel better with a Room Rx.

The reupholstery work on those chairs looks immaculate, Cathy! Your CSIL is clearly talented, and the fabric has so many vibrant colors. Gorgeous wall color in the powder room, too. Enjoy your weekend!

That fabric is gorgeous!! Love the bold statement, but traditional floral. What a huge difference in the powder room ~ great team you two make!

This was a great demonstration. I want a custom sofa, now. Really love the roman shade idea.

You've done a nice job explaining this concept Cathy and how one fabric can set the tone for the rest of the home as far as the color palette is concerned. Your CSIL's home is so pretty and I love how you've infused color into the rooms.

So fun, love the fabric on the caned chairs, and all your touches! Looks like your influence over there, for sure. Great job Cathy!
