Overstock chair "hack"

Did you miss me last week???!!!  My hiatus lasted a little longer that I had intended but I am back with all kinds of good stuff this week beginning with the fun chair upgrade I am sharing today...

When I planned for this dark family room makeover, one of the things that was important was flexible seating, the kind that is easily mobile in order to move around a room as needed. I knew that whatever we chose, we would be customizing it with the inspiration fabric we had chosen, the gorgeous embroidery (Kodiak by Stout) on the bottom right....

which we had made into a pair of pillows on the sofa and wanted to use elsewhere as well.

After searching Craigslist and all of my favorite local haunts for a pair of interesting and unique chairs ripe for a makeover, and coming up empty handed, I turned to Overstock. I found this chair:

My client liked the look of the chair but it was a bit too large and the finish was not right for the space so she found a similar one on Overstock, clicked 2 and hit purchase! (Unfortunately that chair seems not to be available anymore) We sent them out to the upholsterer and here is the lovely result.....

Who would ever know that this was an Overstock piece (unless they read it here of course!) My client has two lovely and "unique to her" chairs and is pleased as punch.

One of the most important tenets that I work by is to not ever let your rooms look like they came right out of the pages of a catalogue or blog or have someone else's look, make it yours, make it unique and interesting.  Anything can be tweaked and customized with paint or fabric so that it reflects who you are and your personal tastes. Have fun and take chances. And just because DIY may not be your thing, there are plenty of talented people out there who can do it for you.

I'll be back on Wednesday with the final reveal of my CSIL's dining room, I am so excited with how it turned out and can't wait to share!
 Have a great week!

Does your room need a “prescription” for a change of decor, function or design?  I would love to work with you to help your room "feel better."

Cathy, what a great looking chair. I share your philosophy of making things your own. I love Pottery Barn, but there's nothing worse than looking at a room and knowing everything in it came straight from PB! Great job on the chairs.

Get outta here! They look great and really have a custom look to them. I'll have to keep this in mind. (PS - I've been having all sorts of Google Blogger/Reader issues - glad you got it straightened out).
