Fabric Flowers

This is what my dining room has been looking like lately, a mess, a disaster, like a bomb went off!  Even my kids have been giving me a hard time, which is saying something since 2 out of 3 of them typically have rooms that look far worse.  I have been busy at work on a fun, creative project.....
Fabric flowers!!!!  A while back I mentioned here that my cousin Jesse is getting married in May and I have been helping her brainstorm a few things for her big day. Like most brides, she is trying to keep the costs down and as such we have come up with lots of fabulous DIY projects. Inspired some time ago by a few flower making tutorials like this and this and then doing an all-out search and finding this list, I volunteered to make the bridesmaids' and groomsmen's flowers.
Normally I am a person who craves order and tidiness, but somehow when my creative self takes over, I function quite well and maybe even better, in the eye of the hurricane so to speak!  So look past the mess of my dining room/work space and have a peek at my nearly finished creations. The bridesmaids will each carry one very large "bloom" and the boutonnieres will be made (by the bride) from one of the flowers in the bowl.

Some leftover fabrics, some fabric specifically purchased, vintage lace and a falling apart strand of beads from a local antique store are the foundation for these lovelies and I couldn't be more delighted by how they have turned out.  But the best part?  My darling cousin's response:

CATHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok, first and foremost...I AM SO STINKING IN LOVE WITH THESE BOUQUETS I CAN HARDLY CONTAIN MY EXCITEMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My eyes filled with tears when I opened this email. Not only are the flowers simply STUNNING, the way you set them up for your photos just sent me right up and over the moon IN LOVE! I am having a hard time finding the words to express my excitement and happiness to have these flowers in my wedding....MY FRIENDS WILL FLIP OUT FOR THEM!!!!!

Talk about eyes tearing up, what could be better than those accolades and that statement of appreciation???  And the best part?  The display for the photo shoot, the bowl and vase specifically, were buried in the unholy mess on my table, so just unearthing them was the impetus to set up the display and shoot a photo to send her.  As pleased as I am with the progress, I am not yet done, still up, a "Mother of the Bride" corsage for my aunt and maybe another surprise or two, stay tuned!

Have a great Friday and enjoy your week-end, whatever your creative endeavors may be!

Does your room need a “prescription” for a change of decor, function or design? If so please contact me,
I would love to help!

Hi! Stopping by from your fabric party!
Fabric flowers have been such the rage lately. How lucky your cousin was to have them custom made by you! They are sure to become treasured family heirlooms.
