That Linda from My Crafty Home Life.... she must not know about my DIY-ADD because she asked me again to participate in one of her challenges! Silly me, I said YES! So now I actually have to complete a project. Good thing this is something I have been contemplating for some time. After reading tons of tutorials about how to paint a rug, the idea that had been germinating in my head sprouted with Linda's invitation. I have had a simple, beige wool flat weave rug for ages that does not have a place in my home at the moment. Since it doesn't see the light of day, packed away in a box, I have nothing to lose in giving it a go and sprucing it up with paint.
My initial thought is to put it into my daughter's room since I have been campaigning for order and neatness in there, trying to get her motivated so that it does not look not so much like this....
She says the rug is too scratchy, and since she does her homework on the floor rather that at her desk, ultimately it may not end up there. My goal is to make sure it would work elsewhere in my house and if all else fails, maybe send it off with my son for his dorm room when he heads off to college next fall.
My 5x8' wool rug looks something like this:
So now to figure out how to give it the most WOW in the simplest way possible.... (keeping in mind my DIY-ADD).
You will want to follow along for the next few Thursdays with all of these other talented folks as we all chronicle our efforts to paint a rug. Linda has aptly named us the "Rug Rats."
Bring it on "Rug Rats!"
Does your room need a “prescription” for a change of decor, function or design? If so please contact me, I would love to help your room feel better with a Room Rx.

Can't wait to see what you create!! <3
This should be fun. Can't wait to see what you do.
Fun stuff Cathy - you can do it! And I love when you post that photo of your daughter's room - it cracks me up every time. You know I love seeing your projects, but your daughter's room post has to be one of my favorites just for the pure humor of it all. Although I know it's probably driving you crazy.
It will be fun no matter what...love your raw truth of your kids room. Does putting it out on your blog motivate her to clean it? I just shut their doors for 4 years...this too will pass.

I can't wait to follow along!!
Hahaha! You are so brave to show your teen's room. I have three teens and I have nightmares about other people seeing their rooms.
Can't wait to see what you come up with.
Oh, that room makes me smile, fun to see it again! :) What a great rug to start with, I bet she'll change her tune when it's finished!
Now this is a room I recognize...I have one just like it in my house. I am painting a wool rug, too. This is already fun...um, I mean funny.
Can't wait to see what you do!
ADD is THE reason I never succeed with DIYs. Absolutely no patience for working slowly and carefully.
Did you see that the photo in my daughter's room was cropped? There was plenty of mess in there, too. How old is your daughter? Can't wait to see what you do!
Such brave bloggers. And my daughter's room looks just like your daughter's room. Thank goodness for doors that close!

Oooh, everyone's going to be painting a rug? This is cool!! Sounds like so much fun. I always wondered about painted rugs, like does the paint ever come off, or is it weird to sit on? Can't wait to see! I'm with Holly, I laugh every time I see your daughter's room:)
Love your daughters room! Hilarious. Gonna' be fun for sure.
This is going to be so much fun to follow and inspiring for me as I have wanted to attempt something like this for a while. Enjoy, Cathy!!
How fun! I know you can "make it work" :)
