Room Rx: spicy hues

Last week I shared with you some furniture and fabrics that I was pulling together for a client's living room, so today I wanted to show you my Room Rx for this room. A large space with gorgeous wood floors, tall windows and beautiful mouldings provides the framework and the existing rug, the inspiration.

My client has some beautiful furnishings that we will be keeping in the room; the antique armoire, the cherry tables, the secretary and chair, the rest was fair game for replacing.

My goal in this room was to tone down the bold color and let the beauty of the furnishings and accessories speak, as well as making the space comfy and approachable so that reading, quietly "hanging out" and occasional entertaining could be the primary function. My clients travel quite a bit and have collected mementos and taken photos which I felt needed to be showcased.

Below are the final fabric and paint selections:

The room is already painted, furniture is on order and window treatments are in the works, so fingers crossed, we are done in the next several weeks, hopefully before Thanksgiving!

Do you have any decorating projects underway with hopes to finish before the holidays?

Does your room need a “prescription” for a change of decor, function or design? If so please contact me, I would love to help your room feel better with a Room Rx.

I love that you are toning it down quite a bit, yet still keeping the character and charm through fabric. I love the ottoman you chose.

You always blow me away with your fabric choices and vision. I can't wait to see this come together. Those fabrics are beautiful together and mixed with the wood tones and their personal belongings - I have a feeling they'll be spending a lot of time in this room.

I loved the fabrics on their own, but seeing them with the rug...perfection! Their furniture will be gorgeous against the lighter walls, great decision! Yes, as a matter of fact seems everyone is all of a sudden wanting things spiffed up before the holidays!

Beautiful, Cathy! Changing that paint color is going to make a huge difference right off the bat!! I love how you have incorporated what they already had, but by adding a few new key pieces and accessories, you are giving this room a complete transformation. So cool! That red houndstoothie sofa is going to be killer!!! And I love the contemporary vibe that the green trellis pattern and small scale geometric are adding to the fabric mix. Can't wait to see more!

You have chosen a great balance of fabrics and patterns - bold and muted - which complement each other perfectly. Look forward to the reveal!

Gorgeous! I love how your are mixing in a more modern pattern in with more traditional ones. It is a room that will stay current for many, many years.
