10 Things: Vibrant Shared Bedroom

I have enjoyed doing these 10 Things posts and would love to hear your thoughts on how you like them. My idea is to do them when inspired as opposed to a regular weekly post, but I can't decide...

I think with all that we see and are inspired by on the Internet through reading blogs and e-magazines, pinning, etc. it is important to slow down and really take a look that the images to understand what we love and what it is that speaks to us. Understanding the particulars will help in creating spaces you love and which reflect your own personal tastes.

So here we go for this week....have you seen the HGTV Dream home2013? There are some amazing spaces in this home so today I have chosen this vibrant shared bedroom.....

These are a few things that speak to me:

1) Liberal use of a bold color palette
2) Stripes - painted on the walls and in the rug
3) The grounding effect of white in the bedding and curtains as well as furniture finish
4) The matelasse quilts on the bed and hand painted butterfly pillows
5) The graphic punch of the green floral fabric on the duvet covers and pillow
6) The traditional four poster beds  and chest which make a big impact painted a bold turquoise
7) Thistle artwork over the nightstand
8) Cozy reading corner
9) The practicality of the ceiling fan, it may not be a stunner but it is so functional!
10) ??? What do you love?

Does your room need a “prescription” for a change of decor, function or design? If so please contact me, I would love to help your room feel better with a Room Rx.

such fun room!!!! i love these posts- i always like looking for number something else- it's like the highlights for kids hidden pictures, but for fashionable adults. ;) for me it's the touch of cobalt in this room- in the planter???, in the pillow, and in the rug- it helps give more depth and sophistication.

This is my first Ten Things post I have read and I like it.

I love the room, but I since it is the design house, it doesn't have the lived in look that I prefer to see when reading blogs.

I love these posts, Cathy! It's great to slow down and analyze a room ~ I need to take photos of a girl's room I did, we painted an old four poster bed and did subtle stripes. I'm going to be dealing with a ceiling fan soon, so that stood out, it doesn't look too horrible painted white! (Am I kidding myself?) :)

I love this room too. So bright and cheerful. I love the texture of the roman shade and the artwork over the nightstand. My kids remind me everyday to enter the dream house giveaway!

I need to bring up something else that I noticed...check out the first photo versus the second photo. Not only does the lighting look different and make the stripes appear fainter, but it looks like they may have adjusted the furniture a bit to get the photos right. Do you see what I mean? It's nice that this room could be a guest room or work for siblings.

Oh, and I forgot to comment on this column - I really like this column but I would do it as your inspired. I wouldn't feel forced to do it each week. I know I would struggle to pick a room each week, but there are those certain rooms that leave a clear picture in your mind - those are the rooms you should use :)

Holly is right! I don't think the beds are even on the same wall in the first and second photo -- so funny! And, good catch Holly :).

First of all, I totally love this column. I completely agree with that you we don't take time to really look at rooms and what we like about them. But you should definitely do it as you feel inspired :).

Second, I really like that the subtle curtain trims mirrors the colors of the thistle poster. It's super subtle, but it's one of those details that makes such a huge difference.

Since I am trying to figure out how to clear the clutter...it might be fun to talk about how we would edit or remove one object from the room. If that is the case, I would take that blue basket off the ottoman.
