Big news and a sneak peek!

Last week in my One Room Challenge post I mentioned that I was going to sew a duvet cover myself and wished that my CSIL lived closer so that she could do it for me. For those of you that are new to Room Rx my CSIL is my "Creative Sister In Law" and I have written about her in depth here and mentioned her about a bajillion times since then in my blog posts.
She is the sister I never had and my creative counterpart and to top it off, she is an amazing seamstress.   Therese has made many items for me, from curtains and pillows to clothing.
(And she did make the pillows for my ORC which you will see on Thursday)

Now she is going to share her talents with the rest of the world with the soon to happen launch of her
Sewing Studio, "Therese Marie!"

Until the "Therese Marie" shop opens, here is what you need to know about it all...

Discontinued fabric sample squares at JoAnn’s last spring made the proverbial light bulb go off in Therese’s head.  Hundreds of squares pinned to a board have become her “painter’s palette.” This is the starting point for the unique pillows which will be offered in her shop.

Much research, soul searching and conversation occurred in the development of her business plan and so the "Sewing Studio" was born with the idea that Therese would not just be sewing pillows and other  home decor, but creating unique, one of a kind pieces, works of art.

Creating a business identity was next.  Therese knew she wanted it to reflect her style and that some part of her logo could be stitched onto the backs of her pillow squares. She was lucky to work with a talented local graphic designer to create this logo:
design by  Staci Gibson

The image above is what has come to be known as the “flower doodle” and was sent to a local stitch digitizer and uploaded to a computerized embroidery machine.  This element will be a part of every "Therese Marie" pillow and will enhance the design and decorating possibilities of those pieces.

Donating a few pillows for the high school band fundraiser, created using pieces of old uniforms, provided a risk-free trial run as Therese kept track of her time and fine-tuned the process of making a pillow that had to look good both inside and out.

Like many artists, lots of experimentation and trial and error has gone into putting together her initial offering. Therese has spent many hours creating beautiful and original pillows using not only interesting fabrics, but lovely details like unique trims,

colorful buttons,

and various sizes of linen and velvet cording

to create pillows like this one.

Gorgeous isn't it? And so fun!
Therese's pillows are one of a kind and will give the owner two looks, one bold the other more understated. The "Therese Marie" shop will have tons of different looks offering the same flexibility. Plus, she will be offering the opportunity to have custom designs created to work in any space.

There are a few final details to take care of before the official opening of the
"Therese Marie Sewing Studio" but when it happens in the next week or two, you will be the first to know, so stay tuned!

I couldn't be more thrilled for both of you, I'm sure you had a hand in many details, Cathy! Therese is so talented and has such a gift for being creative it's wonderful that she'll be sharing it. I predict a success more smashing than she could even imagine!

I'm a tad jealous of your ORC pillows and CSIL, Cathy! :)
