More pale color

A comment yesterday by Raina Cox  of the blog If the Lampshade Fits, (which by the way you absolutely must read as Raina is funny, sharp and has an incredible design aesthetic) got me thinking about the use of pales in design being on an upswing. To me, pales are NOT pastel, they are edgier, grayer, more washed out, maybe even a little "dirty."  Pales often seem to be shown with grays and taupes and are not "sweet" like pastels, they are a bit "salty."

Pales seem to be often accompanied by natural or weathered woods, lots of texture and an occasional pop of a deeper, more saturated color. Walls in pale rooms do not have much color, yet they are the perfect backdrop for the various hues of "pale."
