Fresh Fabrics Friday: Golly Bard Woodland Collection

Have you heard of Spoonflower Fabrics?  It is a company that allows individuals to design and print their own fabrics using digital textile printers, eco friendly water based inks and natural fiber fabrics.  So if you have ever thought of creating your own fabric, this is the place for you, but you can also purchase fabrics created by other artists and individuals and browsing those offerings was how I found the Golly Bard Woodland Collection.

Holly Ward Bimba is the creative force behind this lovely collection of nature inspired fabrics.  She is a watercolor artist selling her original works in her Etsy Shop and fabrics based on those original paintings on Spoonflower. Holly also has a delightful blog and was a featured artist on Etsy, so be sure to check it all out.

Below I have shared my top three (make that 4) Golly Bard patterns, but honestly every single one of them is charming beyond words, and all are available to be printed on a variety of fabrics, each at an incredible price (from $18 - $38 per yard) making them perfect for just about any decorating or creative project.

So beautiful and fun don't you think?  There are 20 patterns in all in the Woodland Collection and the end uses for these lovelies are many.  Depending on the weight of the fabric chosen, everything from window treatments, to bedding, to upholstery can be made with a Golly Bard pattern.  All fabrics are printed to order and there is no minimum yardage quantity.  Spoonflower has hundreds of other designs available by other artists as well and remember, if you can't find exactly what you want, design it yourself!

That brings me to my next thought.... that it's time to hear from all of you!  I want to know what fabrics you love, what projects, DIY or otherwise, you have completed using fabric, what wonderful fabrics you have discovered or designed yourself, or, in a word anything that is fabric related.  So, next week on Fresh Fabrics Friday, I'll have my first ever link party set up so that you can share all things fabric.  I"ll give you the details as I get the whole "linky" thing figured out, I can't wait to see what everyone brings to the party!

Have a great week-end... I am off to a GNO in Chicago with some dear friends tonight, so excited!

Room Rx: A Workspace for Two

Last week I wrote about the office space in my home and the little "fix me up" needed to help the room become more functional, organized and of course better looking.  Like many projects we embark upon, this one is a low budget, use what you have, buy only neccesities kind of project.  The needed purchases will be a large, long desk or table, a couple of chairs and some sort of wall mounted storage. The room is already painted Benjamin Moore's Princeton Gold (which I am considering changing), has window treatments in the form of wood blinds and a valence and is outfitted with not only built-in shelves but a pair of teak bookcases.

Hold on to your bootstraps, I am going to be brave and let you see the before, a messy, cluttered, hub of activity, complete with the built-in "corner" desk that I've never liked...

The desk pictured below is a teak Mid-Century beauty that was my Dad's, unfortunately, it just doesn't work in this room because of it's size and the fact that two of us need to work in here. So for now, into storage it goes.

The wood blinds and valence which will be incorporated into the design. The source for the gold orange and navy color scheme (though from these photos it's hard to see those colors).

So onto the Design Concept Board, you are seeing it before my client (Hubby) so this may change a little bit.  He has agreed to the desks from Ikea as well as the idea of trying to give 3 different file cabinets a similar look with paint and paper (yup, I am going to embark on a DIY project).  I'm still not sure if he will go for a rug on the hardwood floor, time will tell. I have a couple of vintage lamps that I plan to paint and update (oh yes, more DIY) and I'm still undecided about the wall storage and memo boards. I already have the gold fabric.

I showed Hubby this gorgeous version of the Ikea desk and he was not going for it, he did not like the rough hewn wood for writing on.  It sure looks good though doesn't it?

This is the inspiration for the file cabinet make-overs:

I like the idea of using pegboard for getting things off of the desk and may try to incorporate it.

The two wood chairs in the before photos may also get a makeover with paint and cushions to create a little seating area by the window.  So as you can see my friends, I have my work cut out for me, especially since I am committing to all of these DIY projects.  Thankfully "my client" is along for the ride and will lend a hand, so stay tuned and wish me/us luck!

Finds: World Market

Madison is not exactly a "home decor mecca," we do have a few wonderful, local home stores and some terrific antique and second hand stores, as well as a handful of national retailers, so we make do.  Sometimes however, we all need a "quick fix," something that fills the bill but doesn't break the bank or require a total overhaul to be just right (I have mentioned before, that while I am perfectly capable of DIY, I don't always have the patience or time for it). It's the "quick fix" that is often a little tougher to do here with the limited resources available.  Today when I made a quick stop at World Market, I must say I was quite pleasantly surprised.  Since I have neither the need nor the cash to purchase many of these goodies, I thought I would share my "finds" with you my friends!

First up, since I am in the planning stages of an home office makeover, I had to check out the desks, have a look at this beauty:

I have seen chairs like this all over the internet, but never at such an outstanding price!

This chair would be stunning at either end of a dining table, paired with some upholstered side chairs.

Another little dittie that has made a few appearances around the design world of late, but is now within reach for those of us with skinny wallets!

You never know what pretty, ready made pillows you might find at a big box retailer, I was not disappointed, aren't these fresh and fun?

This photo does not do justice to the lovely pattern of these curtains, a great way to add some zip to any room.  There were pillows made of the same fabric, add just one to tie the room together.

OMG, how fun is this outdoor pouf?  The brightly colored patchwork is eye-catching and hip.
Gauguin Garden Pouf $59.99

Loved this print as a starting/inspiration piece for a room design, great colors, a pleasing pattern and an affordable price.

Jodi Fuchs "Collective" $129.99

There were quite a few other pieces that I thought were well designed at a great price but I didn't want to bore you to tears here.  If you have a World Market near you check it out, if not these items and more are available on their website, set aside some time and have a look.

What have you purchased from World Market for your home?  Where else have you shopped lately and what great finds have you uncovered?  Would love to hear.....

At the end of my rope

Rope, who would think such a utilitarian material could inspire such creative uses in design and decor?

Such cleverness and creativity!  And then there is the whole world of rope in fashion, from bracelets, to necklaces, to belts and beyond, the applications seem endless.... I am inspired to find some way to incorporate the lowly rope in my home, believe me, the wheels are turning.  How about you, have you used rope for a design related project?  Leave a comment and feel free to share a link and give us a peek.
